I've been thinking of ideas for me to expand my creativity and more importantly trying to sell my work. My Husband's now working on a graphic novel that got it's funding on kickstarter.com and is already thinking about trying his luck at getting more projects funded that way. I was thinking of doing a short film since I'm a traditional animator, it's what I love to do, and it's how I think. Unfortunately being a no name artist there's no way I could get the funding needed to do an animation with the time costuming drawing on paper and scanning plus living on a LA budget. A Cintiq will cut so much production time down but are terribly expensive and is out of the question for me to get at this time.
So I can't make my own films as of yet because of costs however I can't let these ideas keep sitting on the shelf for years. So why not use what I've learned at school and do a graphic novel? I have a story that I was originally going to do in-between my first and second year of school but then, thinking like an animator, decide to eventually rewrite it as a feature film. I am in no way in a position to work on my own animated feature films, period.
Instead of letting these feature film ideas sit around I'm going to make them into graphic novels, graphic novellas, and or short comic series depending on the story. Trying to get funding for an independent comic would be way easier to do then for a tradition animation. It's still won't be that easy though. I have a lot of work to do, research, samples to draw, and a lot of ideas for incentives. Whether I get the funding through kickstarter or not I have to get my ideas and my art organized and out there. I can't just keep them on my computer as a list to do later. I have to make time and take the risk. I have to move myself forward as an artist. If anyone has any suggesting I would love to hear them. I will share my progress with you all and let you know how things are going. Best thing about being in a community with other artist is that we can lean from each other.
Thank you all and keep drawing and even write too!

POLAR SPIRIT: my first graphic novel
Happy New Year Everyone!
I don't know about you but 2013 for me was a bad year. Relatives dying and the state of animation/ VFX industry can really bring a person down. I am very blessed to have my husband and our family for support. I decided in 2013 to serious conceder starting my own project as well as still freelance. So far I have a list of 7 graphic novels and a couple of children's books I want to create. Create meaning everything from writing, drawing, editing layouts, campaigning, marketing, promoting, all the fun stuff. It's serious stuff which is why it took me a year to decide.
Today I've launched the facebook page for my first
